8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. – Dance at the Virginia Dare Ballroom at the Sir Walter Apartments, at 400 Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, NC. It’s the Savoy DJ Battle Night with our event DJs taking on the music of Savoy Ballroom band battle veterans: Savoy favorite and house band Chick Webb featuring Ella Fitzgerald (DJ Brad Nathanson); swing royalty Count Basie featuring Billie Holiday (DJ Kristy Milliken); and the King of Swing himself, Benny Goodman (DJ Bill Speidel) – expect an epic night of excellent music!

12:00 p.m. – Presentation/talk at The Lindy Lab studio (Triangle Dance Studio, 2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC) on “The Bands of Frankie Manning’s Savoy Ballroom” with our event DJs: Everyone knows Chick Webb was the bandleader supreme at Harlem’s famed Savoy Ballroom. The stories of his orchestra out-battling the musicians Benny Goodman and Count Basie are legends in the jazz world. But what about the other bandleaders who showcased their musical chops for dancers – Cab Calloway’s Missourians, Fletcher Henderson’s Roseland Orchestra, and many others. Bring a bag lunch and listen in as our DJ team shares some history and stories about the “The Bands of Frankie Manning’s Savoy Ballroom.”

1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – Frankie-inspired workshops with Abigail Browning and Adam Speen at The Lindy Lab studio, Triangle Dance Studio, 2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC

8:00 – 11:00 p.m. – Triangle Swing Dance Society dance featuring the Mint Julep Jazz Band at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro Street, Carrboro, NC

12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. late night dance with DJs – The Lindy Lab studio, Triangle Dance Studio, 2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC

1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. – pig pickin’ and dance with th’ Bullfrog Willard McGhee, John Dee Holeman, and Tad Walters at The Lindy Lab studio, Triangle Dance Studio, 2603 S. Miami Blvd, Durham, NC. Catering provided by the world renowned NC BBQ restaurant The Pit! Your meal is included with your event registration – come feast on NC BBQ with all the fixins! For our vegetarian registrants, we’ll have some awesome Southern food just for you. 🙂
